Ancora is a nonprofit educational organization composed of treble (soprano and alto, regardless of gender) singers who endeavor to improve and develop their vocal talents and music education. Members continue their commitment to musical excellence while building friendships and support among singers.
Today, Ancora performs outstanding choral music through a challenging program of rehearsals and concerts, and enriches the arts community by sharing exquisite music for treble voices with the public.
Ancora is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt nonprofit organization in the State of Washington.
One evening in May 2004, a handful of Seattle Girls’ Choir alumnae gathered at Wallingford Presbyterian Church. Their purpose: to rekindle the camaraderie and pure joy of singing exquisite music for women’s voices they had experienced as choristers in the Seattle Girls’ Choir.
As rehearsals continued, various members took the helm directing old songs for which they still had their music. In August 2004, they formed a three-member Board of Directors; in October, an artistic director was hired; and in 2005, section 501(c)3 nonprofit status was granted by the IRS. Ancora was officially born.
