Give Big 2023 is here!

Dear Friends of Ancora,

One evening in May 2004, a handful of Seattle Girls’ Choir alumnae gathered at Wallingford Presbyterian Church. Their purpose: to rekindle the camaraderie and pure joy of singing exquisite music for women’s voices they had experienced as choristers in the Seattle Girls’ Choir.

As rehearsals continued, various members took the helm directing old songs for which they still had their music. In August 2004, they formed a three-member Board of Directors; in October, an artistic director was hired; and in 2005, section 501(c)3 nonprofit status was granted by the IRS. Ancora Women’s Choir was officially born!

Looking back over all the wonderful music we have shared during our 19 years, we are immensely grateful to you, our loyal supporters, without whom our story would not have grown and flourished. As we turn our attention to Ancora’s future, we respectfully reach out for your continued support to help us raise $4,000 in our 2023 Give Big campaign, launching today.

Your donations will go toward funding Ancora’s 20th Anniversary next year – it will be a year of spectacular music for our community. We are very grateful for any donation you can make at https://www.wagives.org/ancora during our two-week campaign to help us fund this very special upcoming season!

Thankfully, and with warm regards,

Andrea, Scott, and the singers of Ancora

Our final concert of the season, Love and Longing, will be a tonally rich adventure as Ancora presents the premiere of Pacific Northwest Composer Donald Skirvin’s "All My Songs for You," commissioned by Ancora. This suite of three pieces sets poetry from Sara Teasdale’s 1920 work Flame and Shadow. The choir premiered the final movement ("In All My Songs") on our Transient Glory concert in February 2023

As a partner to these Teasdale texts, the choir will also perform "Three Love Songs of Emily Dickenson" by the American composer James Mulholland. Joining these two suites will be Johannes Brahms’ "Four Songs for Three Voices" along with works by Richard Nance, Kim Kamerin, Mari Esabel Valverde, and Alice Parker.
