Circles of Joy on January 27th takes a look back at some of Ancora's favorite pieces (suggested by singers), some audience favorites, and a few gems written or arranged especially for us. Held at the Great Hall at Green Lake in Seattle, this concert will feature a champagne and dessert reception as we toast to the next twenty years!
In May of 2004, a group of singers, including alumni of the Seattle Girl’s Choir, came together to form the board of what was to become Ancora Women’s Choir. With Artistic Director Jerome Wright and Assistant AD Tess Orozco at the artistic helm, the choir began its twenty-year journey to become one of the leading choral ensembles in our community.
Now led by Artistic Director J. Scott Kovacs, Ancora is set to celebrate its 20th anniversary year beginning with Circles of Joy: Celebrating 20 Years of Ancora on January 27th , 2024 at the Great Hall at Green Lake at 7:00 pm.
This concert features favorite selections from members of the choir, works written or arranged for Ancora, and a few pieces that Ancora has become known for as part of our long tradition of sharing treble music with audiences.
Join us after the concert for dessert and a champagne toast to the next twenty years!

Viriditas on June 15 explores the “power of green,” including songs for spring and summer, an exquisite Hildegard chant, and selections from Ralph Vaughn Williams’ Folk Songs for the Four Seasons.
We will conclude our 20th Anniversary year with a performance of Benjamin Britten’s Ceremony of Carols, alongside Kirke Mecham’s Seven Joys of Christmas, with a healthy dose of British and American carol settings, including one or two for the audience.
Our concert takes its title from the chant O nobilissima viriditas of Hildegard von Bingen. We will explore repertoire celebrating spring and summer as a time of renewal and refreshment from the time of Hildegard to the present day, illuminating the green thread that connects healing and life to nature.
The first half of the concert features groupings of music that include a chant, motet, or anthem on the same theme. The second half of our concert features spring and summer selections from Ralph Vaughn Williams’ Folk Songs of the Four Seasons, a work that captures the pastoral delight of the green meadows and the creatures that dwell there.
Viriditas takes place at 7:00 pm on June 15, 2024 at Woodlawn Hall and is the second in our three-concert series celebrating 20 years since Ancora’s founding in 2004.
